Kevin O'Leary

Kevin O'Leary, or Mr. Wonderful as he prefers to be called, is perhaps the most ruthless Shark of them all.

Kevin began his business ventures at an early age. Right after finishing college, Kevin and a few friends launched a television production company which was eventually bought out for $25,000 by one of his partners. Shortly after that, Kevin started his next company from his basement which he started with a $10,000 investment from his mother. This company, Softkey, primarily produced software for home audiences such as shareware game software packages in a "jewel-case" CD-ROM. By 1994, Softkey turned into a major player in the educational software market, and in 1995 Softkey acquired The Learning Company (TLC) for $606 million and moved out to Boston. In 1999, Softkey, which was now The Learning Company, was bought out by Mattel for $3.8 billion. However, after sales took a huge dip downwards, Kevin left the company and stepped away from what was one of the worst acquisitions in history.

Moving on, Kevin became a director in a company called Storage Now, which developed climate-controlled storage facilities. This company eventually became one of Canada's largest storage services companies. Mr. O'Leary then moved on to private equity and focused specifically on healthcare and technology related investments. He also joined boards of and committees of various institutions and even started co-hosting shows on the Business News Network and the Discovery Channel.

After establishing a reputation for himself as an investor, Kevin began his firm O'Leary Funds and really worked on building his portfolio through investing in early-stage companies with high-growth potential in various industries.

Kevin now gives the daily business report on CBC's The Lang and O'Leary Exchange. He is also more famously known for being the tough one on the panels in Dragon's Den as well as Shark Tank.

Kevin's Quotes:

- "I am Mr. Wonderful."

- "Stop the madness!"

- "How do I make money?!"

- "Today is the luckiest day of your life. You met me!"

- "Here's how I think of my money - as soldiers. I send them to war every day and I want them to take prisoners and come home so there's more of them."

- " You're dead to me!"

- " Sure, let's all sit around and sing Kumbaya together!"

  1. Kevin, you are very wealthy and very mean and appear very unhappy. Maybe if you used some of your money to help people, you would find some meaning and joy in your miserable self-centered life. Your shallow, greedy life and your cold, hard heart are pathetic. People may want your money or what you can do for them, but I doubt many people like you. Is this really how you want to be remembered? As a rich, cold-hearted fool who only cared about money?

You like to give advice. Here is some for you from Luke 12:15-21 New King James Version:

15 And He (Jesus) said to them, “Take heed and beware of covetousness,[a] for one’s life does not consist in the abundance of the things he possesses.”

16 Then He spoke a parable to them, saying: “The ground of a certain rich man yielded plentifully. 17 And he thought within himself, saying, ‘What shall I do, since I have no room to store my crops?’ 18 So he said, ‘I will do this: I will pull down my barns and build greater, and there I will store all my crops and my goods. 19 And I will say to my soul, “Soul, you have many goods laid up for many years; take your ease; eat, drink, and be merry.”’ 20 But God said to him, ‘Fool! This night your soul will be required of you; then whose will those things be which you have provided?’

21 “So is he who lays up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God.”

    And Mark 8:36
For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?

  5. Wow. Why all the negative comments against this guy?

I mean, praises to the kind of guy who can get rich and still be humble and kind, but the reality is, in business and economics, you need this guy's ferocity and willingness to work like a beast to compete and succeed. Yes, it does make them susceptible to hubris and the constant opportunities to get richer can make them not know when to stop and come back down to Earth, but it's people like that that are the reason why thousands of people can have jobs and can feed their families.

So the next time you guys want to tell these guys that the world doesn't revolve around them, think again, because whether it's God, a politician and businessman, a venture capitalist, or even the richest and more popular kid in your school, we're all looking for someone in power to revolve around and benefit from.

Simply put, people who say "Richer is better than rich" are the ones who make it possible for people like you to say "Rich is easier than richer".
